Beltane been and gone

Photopoint is born
The name given to my group by the society was Photopoint.  There are a number of "points" around the hill at Beltane, the most obvious being the four elemental Points (Air, Earth, Water, and Fire).  The name was thus an in-joke, in that we are spread all over the place and certainly not all in one place at one time.

However; we did create a "Photopoint" of sorts.  On the right flank of the Acropolis, we had a super-tele lens mounted on a tripod (400mm F2.8).  There we had our food and supplies, and that is where we fell back to at the end of the night.  Next year it will be even more substantial.

The group, Photopoint, now exists beyond Beltane.  We socialise, share equipment, practise, shoot together, and we even have a few events lined up.

Beltane Open Meeting was hectic...
I now have twelve photogs, which is a perfectly fine team.
Two months now, to prepare for Beltane.

Beltanes-Past Exhibiton is on it's way...
We have an exhibition space, in an arty cafe, from April 20th onwards, until May.  I am trying to get a meeting arranged between the archivist, myself, and the cultural calendar organisers.

You may have seen the photos of Caroline; you can see more of these in my flickr gallery.

If you have flickr, I strongly recommend you watch my gallery there. Generally; I update that gallery a lot more regularly than this one.  I like the site better, it's more flexible, has less obvious flaws, and it stalls less often when I'm trying to use it.

Sony Season

Anyway, yes.  It's Sony season; a few new annoucements should be made this year and hopefully they should be before PMA (March).  At least one body (semi-pro), maybe two others (sub-entry-level, full or 1.3x-crop pro).  Rumours are for ten new lenses lenses, split evenly between Zeiss and Sony.

I believe  that rumour includes the Zeiss 16-80mm F3.5-4.5 which is due to be released in March.  It also includes the Zeiss 24-70mm F2.8 which was leaked last year and is likely to be released at the same time.

I am hoping that they'll re-release the 100mm F2.0 as a Sony lens, with ADI added.  I need to buy a bright tele lens before October; either that or the Sigma 50-150mm F2.8.  In the meanwhile, I will be buying the Tamron 17-50mm F2.8 before April.

Beltane Fire Society

Imbolc is around the corner; 2nd February.  It will be a smaller festival compared to Beltane or Samhuinn but it'll serve as a good practise session for my photographers.

As well as their photographer I am also now the organiser of photography for the Beltane Fire Society... I have recruited six photographers so far ... but the main wave will be in February.  Beltane is at the end of April, and will be fantastic.  It is the society's 20th!  I have already booked the entire week off; to relax beforehand, to join in on the partying afterwards, and also to work on my photos.

I am also organising an exihibition of Beltane / Samhuinn photography, which will occur in April before Beltane.  This is special event, part of the line-up to celebrate the twentieth year of Beltane festivals in Edinburgh.
